I am starting to adjust. The rest of the family is adjusted and they all claim they like it better in IL.

Not me, I miss the AZ sunshine and heat. This cold sucks. My hands and feet are cold all of the time. I actually have a heater under my desk to keep my feet warm.

Here is a picture of the Wal-Mart parking lot on Christmas eve. Jared and I were doing some last minute shopping. As you can see, the snow is piled higher than the car.

The only advantage to snow is sledding and brodies. I think that my wife questions my age everytime she drives with me. If I see a patch of snow I have to spin a brodie (donut or whatever you call it). It is the only enjoyment I get out of living in the snow. One day while Jonnie was in the store getting some butter, I spun over 100 brodies before she came out. Mariah, Jessica and I were all dizzy.

Here are some neighbor kids playing out on the lake near our home.

We had Dale, Raina, Sean and Sonja come visit last weekend, along with their 5 childern (2+3). Having never put on a set of pads, I usually told him he might want to try it out before committing to the career path.

Both Dave and Jake have played flag football in AZ for the school team. This year we finally relented and signed them up for Tackle Football. I was amazed at the program here in Roscoe. Football is a religion to people around here and I am on the path to be converted.

Dave is #57. He played defensive end and started for the entire season even though it was his first year. Here are a series of pictures of him making a tackle. I was a league volunteer photographer.

You might say I am living vicariously through my sons. Yes, I was deprived and never played football when I was a kid. I always wanted too and never took the opportunity.

David is playing for the Roscoe Rockton Hawks. He is the starting right defensive end. He loves to hit people and having a constructive place for him to act out his aggression has made our home a more peaceful place. Dave's team made the playoffs and was 4th place in his league of 20 teams.

Jake plays both Offense and Defense. He is the Right Guard on Offense and a Linebacker on Defense. There were many games where he played every down for a whole quarter and never got a break. He was in the best shape of his life.

Here is a picture of him tackling the ball carrier while playing linebacker.

Jake did not like playing the line. It was boring and he had a hard time remembering what to do on the plays. The coaches made him play a lot when they had a fast linebacker who was penetrating the line. You can see from this picture how small he was compared to the other linemen. Jake was fast and strong.

The Video below shows him taking out a linebacker that has been penetrating the line and sacking the QB.

The coaches told Jake to focus on the one Linebacker and push him back to the goal line 25 yards away.

He did his job and pushed the linebacker all the way back to the line. He frustrated the guy so much that after a play where Jake fell down he pushed him back down while Jake was getting up. Luckily, the Ref saw it and awarded Jake's team a 1st down and 15 yards.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v3.nonxt7.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D7624ccceef7a3c2b%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331888667%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D66B1F218FB176939FA6BD4630256ECC59F4E034C.1A2597C6432BE27DEE19F3F721C4BF17419BE5F2%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D7624ccceef7a3c2b%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DIGsY7kZ2xCyWJcj-fPK_3LtBkrI&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Jake was known as the tight shirt geek boy because his Jersey was too tight and he is taking High School Math in 8th grade. I spent the day seeing customers and equipment in Ohio and drove back to Illinois with my boss. I wasn't feeling too hot because I was coming down with a cold and I had been on the road for three days. I got home about midnight and crashed. I had made my wife promise not to get me anything or do anything for my birthday. I just wanted to forget that I was turning 40.

As always, she never listened. I awoke to the smell of fresh cinimon rolls and my wife and children starring at me. They all gave me some cards and sang Happy Birthday. It was fun and at least they didn't make a big deal about my birthday. Or at least I thought.....

When I got to work I was pretty late (I had slept in) and everyone was looking at me weird as I came into the office area. I headed toward my office and I saw ballons. Jonnie and the kids had decorated my barren office with pictures and curios. She had posted all of my coaching plaques with the team pictures and the other momentos. She was on my speaker phone and was able to hear my reaction. I was very suprised and Jonnie and the Kids did a very nice job.

It was a fun belated birthday. Here is a picture of my out back by the "flooding" Rock river. It has swelled over the banks and was 18" up the back dock of our building.

Made it to Illinois

Well we finally made it to Illinois. We have been here 10 days and have experienced a freezing rain storm, 6 inch snow storm and freezing fog. I never new how uncomfortable cold feet can be. Just like some people cannot cool down in the summers of Arizona, I have trouble getting my extremities warm in the Winter here in Illinois.

Here are some pictures of my truck when it arrived in Illinois after the truck driver had driven through an Ice Storm.

It has been an adjustment getting used to the weather difference between AZ and IL. However the Eames family is making due.

We have made some new friends at work and at Church. Our neighbors have been very friendly also. We have had 3 invitations to parties and one neighbor brought over some homemade brownies that were delicioso (Spanish spelling? - Quoted by Jessica from Dora the Explorer).

The kids have been getting into the winters scene with very little problems. I will have to convert a small video clip Jake took of the boys "Snowboarding" in our front yard with his phone. I will attach it next time. Every chance they get they are out in the snow. Luckily, no one has gotten hurt yet.

The kids also started school this week after a 7 day break. From what I hear, they have caused quite a stir at Prairie Hill (K - 8th) on the day the arrived. David has already started drafting children in Kindergarten into the "I Love David Fan Club". Jake, Mariah, and Jared are all trying to stay under the radar but are still known as the "New Kids".

Our new town is in the Farm Country. We are surrounded by corn fields and dairy farms. We have a two lane road with overhanging trees that we drive down to get to our new home.

Speaking of the home Jonnie is loving something newer, bigger and more up to date. I like that it is still affordable and we are not house poor. I am sure that once Jonnie has gotten the home looking good I will be allowed to post some pictures. Well, enough for now. We miss and love all of our friends and family. Keep in touch.

Love the Eames Family
